Keeping Your Personal Property Safe. What To Do If It Is Damaged Or Stolen.

Downtown Williamsburg is a beautiful, quaint, historic area.  That said, anything can happen anywhere, and at any time.  Here are some important things to consider for keeping your personal property safe and what to do if it is damaged or stolen.

For your safety, the safety of your belongings, and the safety of your apartment be sure to do the following:

  • Lock your front door when you leave your apartment.  Make sure it is securely locked when you leave.
  • Lock your front door when you are in your apartment.  Every apartment is equipped with three (3) door locks – 1. the screen door has an interior latch, 2. the front door has a thumb-latching deadbolt, and 3. the front door has is an interior security chain.door chain
  • Do not give your access code out to anyone.  Your access code is not only your “key”, if you have a roommate, that access code allows whomever you give it to be able to enter not only your apartment, but also your roommate’s apartment, as well. If you give the code out to someone and realize that you need to change your access code, the fee by a locksmith to do so will be assessed to your apartment.
  • Keep your windows locked and secured with the adjustable tension rod that is issued to every apartment, especially if there is are air-conditioning unit installed in them.  Be sure that the window is actually locked.  To lock a window, the tongue or latch of the lock slides into the groove of the lock.  If a window is not properly locked or secured, the window can easily be opened from both the inside and outside.
  • Lock your vehicle and keep the windows rolled up.
  • Secure and lock your bicycle to the bike rack.

If you discover your personal property (this includes your bicycle and/or vehicle) has been damaged or stolen while it is in a common area such as porches, landings, bike racks, or the parking lot:

  1. Call the Williamsburg Police Department and file a police report.  Nothing can be done until you report it to the police.
  2. The Williamsburg Police Department will then contact Management. The Williamsburg Police Department will coordinate the next steps to help you.  If it is necessary for the surveillance video to be reviewed, that request must come from the Williamsburg Police Department as part of their investigation.
  3. All residents at King & Queen Apartments are required to hold a Renters Insurance Policy.  Your insurance policy could cover your damaged or stolen personal property. You may want to inquire with your insurance carrier.
