Air-Conditioning Switchover

Air-Conditioning Switchover — Friday, April 3

Thanks for your patience this week—we appreciate your feedback.

After hearing from residents, we worked with our HVAC contractor to move up the seasonal changeover.

Air conditioning is now live as of today, Friday, April 3.

How the System Works

Our community uses a central two-pipe system, which means heating and air conditioning share the same pipes and cannot operate at the same time.

Switching between systems:

  • Requires a full-day mechanical process
  • Must be completed by our HVAC contractor
  • Cannot be reversed quickly once completed

The timing of this transition is based on weather trends and applicable requirements under the Virginia Maintenance Code, which is enforced locally by the City of Williamsburg Building Official.

Why It Felt Warm Before

Even though the system was in heating mode, the boilers were not actively running during recent warm days.

Apartments may have felt warm due to:

  • Sun exposure heating the building
  • Residual warmth in the system
  • Higher outdoor temperatures

Thermostat Setup for Cooling

  1. Set SYSTEM → COOL
  2. Set FAN → AUTO
  3. Adjust temperature using the arrows

Important:
Keep the fan set to AUTO (not ON), and keep windows and doors closed while using A/C for best performance.

Upcoming Weather (Next Week)

A brief cool stretch is expected early next week, with overnight lows around 40°F.

We are moving forward with A/C because overall weather trends are consistently warming.

  • Keep windows and doors closed during cooler days
  • If needed, contact the leasing office for a temporary space heater
  • Personal electric heaters are not permitted per the Resident Handbook

Additional Note

We understand that pollen season makes opening windows difficult. With A/C now active, that should no longer be necessary.

If you need a space heater or have any questions, please contact the leasing office.

Thank you again for your patience and feedback. We are always committed to improving the resident experience. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our leasing office directly. We’re happy to help in any way we can.
